In this post, we'll explore 5 reasons to get your CCST Networking Certification before the CCNA
From the outside looking in, the IT Industry looks small. Then as we start to pursue or transition into the industry. We realize that its much larger than we thought. You could pursue Cloud, Server management, Software development, Cybersecurity and Networking. Then they each have their own specialties within them. In Networking you may have your sights on the CCNA certification. Or you may think the CCNA is to much information for you to learn starting out. If this is you, the CCST Networking certification could be the droid your looking for. I must say I only watched Star Trek once because I lost a bet. But it seemed like the right thing to say lol.
Fundamental knowledge
Even through the CCNA goes over some of the networking fundamentals. The CCST cover's these fundamentals at a lower level which can build a great foundation. Once you learn the fundamentals, it makes learning the more advance topics easier.
Skill Progression
CCST Networking is perfect for individuals new to networking. It creates a smoother learning curve, that leads to the CCNA certification. After obtaining the CCST, now the CCNA may seem less overwhelming.
Confidence Building (Small Wins)
Confidence is a skill in itself. As your career progresses, you will naturally start to have more confidence. Being confident in your decisions. In this industry, is the one thing that separates engineers from "Great" engineers. This certifications kick starts that process. Obtaining this entry level certifcation, provides a huge confidence boost. With this boost, you will want to keep your winning streak going. Continue that streak by starting to study for the CCNA certification. Before you know it, you will be CCNA certified working towards your CCNP.

Money and Time
Two things I cant stand to waste "Money and Time". For most seasoned IT professionals, preparing for the CCNA certification may take months. For a beginner this could be even longer. Then add on the cost of the CCNA which is roughly $300, could cause you to lose focus due to the time to prepare. The CCST cost is roughly $125, and takes a shorter time to prepare. An added benefit is that after obtaining this certification, you can move on to the next one. The CCNA certification.
Career Readiness:
The CCST certification is an entry level certification, that prepares you for the job market. After obtaining this certification, I recommend adding it to your LinkedIn profile. Then as you prepare your resume, I would make a section to add it there also. After updating your LinkedIn and resume, now its time to job hunt. Entry level networking roles, and entry level support roles are all fair game with this certification. While applying, I would continue pursuing the CCNA and continue getting small wins.
The CCNA is not an easy certification to obtain, for this reason I believe getting the CCST could be a step in the right direction. Whichever route you choose to go, good luck my friend!!!!
